Lanzarote is the popular holiday island that is part of the Canaries chain, located in the Atlantic just off the coast of Africa. And has been welcoming tourists for well over forty years. Thanks to its great year round climate and abundance of beautiful beaches.
The Canaries are owned by Spain despite their proximity to the African mainland and this explains why they are such a hot favourite with tourists from the UK. As they offer all of the familiarity of the Spanish mainland but can be enjoyed at any time of the year. With Christmas and the New Year period proving one of the most popular periods. Making it possible to enjoy holidays in Lanzarote at any time of the year.
Puerto del Carmen may remain the largest resort on the island but Playa Blanca is catching up fast. Especially given the fact that development only really started here in earnest during the 1990´s, way after the other resorts on the island were well established. As a result most of the facilities and amenities in Playa Blanca are modern and relatively new, a factor which only helps to enhance the resorts appeal to visitors.
Approached from the air Playa Blanca can be viewed as three bays contained within one much larger cove – all of which are united by a long and winding promenade that runs parallel with the shoreline. This is a delightful place to stroll, as visitors can view all of the best beaches whilst there are also plenty of excellent bars and restaurants lining the route.
In 2003 the Rubicon Marina opened at the western end of the resort – a development which really helped to bring Playa Blanca to life. As this luxurious harbour is now home to lots of upmarket yachts and provides a lovely ambience for a stroll or a meal out. The Rubicon Marina also hosts a popular weekly market and is home to a large selection of the most luxurious villas in Playa Blanca. Along with the five star Gran Melia Volcan hotel.
Chief amongst Playa Blanca´s attractions are the beaches at nearby Papagayo, which are a set of all natural sands that are widely regarded as amongst the most stunning in the whole of the Canaries. Here, tourists can hop between five different beaches as the fancy takes them.
Papagayo is around a twenty minute walk from the centre of Playa Blanca, so some guest prefer to rent a vehicle to reach them. And there are plenty of Lanzarote car hire offices in the resort.
