Where are you headed on holiday this year? Despite the economic crisis many consumers are still planning to jet abroad. Especially British based tourists – as their summer weather can be so unreliable.
Many will be opting for the Canary Islands, as these seven Spanish posessions guarantee sunshine and little rainfall whatever the time of the year. Thanks to the fact that they are situated close to the West African coast. Yet are still just a four hour flight away.
Lanzarote is one of the smaller and more unspoiled islands in this chain, boasting a barren terrain that has been created by large scale volcanic activity. Along with some wonderful beaches and a handful of good quality holiday resorts. The largest of which is called Puerto del Carmen- named after the local saint of fishermen on the island.
Indeed Puerto del Carmen is the place where tourism first really took hold here during the 1970´s – though at the time there were no roads and just one hotel for visitors to stay in, the Los Fariones. Which is still there today and remains one of the most popular hotels in Lanzarote . The resort has now expanded enormously from it original base in the Old Town harbour area and stretches nearly as far as the airport at Arrecife.
Whilst German and Spanish tourists seem to prefer hotels guests from the UK and Eire tent do book self catering accommodation. Opting for apartments and villas in Puerto del Carmen instead. With hundreds of self catering properties and apartment complexes available across the resort.
Many visitors to the island end up falling in love with Lanzarote. Often after returning year after year on holiday. As a result thousands of tourists end up dipping their toes into the Lanzarote property market. Often buying up an apartment or villa to rent out to other holidaymakers. Attracted by the fact that the year round sunshine means 12 months worth of rental returns.
Puerto del Carmen remains a top spot for investment as does Playa Blanca in the south – which is expanding rapidly. The north also has a great appeal to those seeking to connect with the more authentic side of the island away from the tourist resorts. With villages such as Haria and Guatiza proving popular.
Lanzarote is a year round holiday destination – but to avoid any disappointment visit during he autumn months to get the best of the sun.
